From Peter’s Desk: Crisis at the Border

Congress has not enacted comprehensive immigration legislation since 1986.

After four decades, the U.S. border - and the world - has changed drastically and yet reform has been overlooked.

Despite a compromise measure forged by three senators (a Democrat, a Republican, and an Independent) and introduced late last Sunday, it appears the wait is far from over.

The bill, with funding plans for Ukraine and Israel attached, has attracted a variety of opponents.

But the most egregious of efforts to defeat the immigration bill is the one advanced by Donald Trump, who desires the bill to fail so that he can continue to campaign on the issue which has made him so popular among conservatives.

The border crisis is a symptom of the hyperpartisanship and gridlock that define the federal government today.

Party fealty towers above problem solving, and election-year jockeying surmounts civil discourse in Congress. Many are frustrated by the politics du jour.

The American Solidarity Party seeks to overcome this gridlock and finger-pointing with civility and common good strategies. Solutions are often challenging to form but they are only elusive if cooperation and goodwill are abandoned in the name of satiating the extreme left and right.

Please help us to achieve ballot access and appear as an option for voters this November.

Help us to bring positive change to a negative process.
