From Lauren’s Desk: The FACE Act and its Consequences
Peter recently shared his thoughts about the FACE Act defendants in Washington, DC. This week, after an extraordinary nine-month-long wait in jail, several defendants were sentenced. Earlier today, I received this message from our campaign manager, Dane Garrett:
I am here at the sentencing for four of the nine people unjustly found guilty for counseling inside an abortion clinic in Washington, DC. At the time I write these remarks 2 have been sentenced to 27 and 34 months each. Jonathan Darnell, during his sentencing, stated clearly that not only is abortion immoral, but it is illegal under the 14th amendment. His courage and willingness to sacrifice his freedom for the protection of the unborn is a model to us all. Peter has made clear his support of legislation that will enforce this 14th amendment right to life and has also announced his intention to pardon all of those unjustly convicted under FACE.
The sentences thus far, especially the nearly 5-year sentence received by Lauren Handy, are sobering. They make us think about whether we walk the walk or just talk the talk–whether we actually have skin in the game with regard to our pro-life beliefs. Compared to spending years of my life behind bars, working with Peter on this campaign seems like a small sacrifice indeed. Let’s continue to raise awareness that Americans have an option this November to vote all their values and by voting for Peter Sonski and myself. Every dollar you contribute gets us on more state ballots.
